New City Chiropractic Center Offers Free Treatment in Support of Wounded Warrior Project and An Opportunity to Join the Gladiator ‘Race Teams’

When eleven individuals signed up as members of the Gladiators under the auspices of New City Chiropractic Center to participate in a ‘Spartan Sprint’ for charity in 2013, they didn’t initially realize the impact the race would have on each of them personally as well as those their efforts would support.

In 2013, Dr. Michael Cocilovo and Dr. Gil Rodriguez of New City Chiropractic Center on Route 304 in New City organized a team to participate in a Spartan Race™ and at the same time raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. The dedicated group, which consisted of individuals of varying ages and fitness levels, competed in the grueling 4.6 mile uphill obstacle course on one of the hottest days of the summer, through mud, under barbed wire, over walls and fire and, while pleased with their accomplishment, most swore they wouldn’t do it again. But when all was said and done, they had raised over $9,000 and the thrill of the challenge and the possibility of helping others has led them to expand their vision this year and select another worthy organization -The Wounded Warrior Project.

“We knew the race would be tough, however none of us thought it would be as difficult as it was, but our goal was to support those who struggle each and every day with Multiple Sclerosis and if they could do that, we could finish the race and raise money for their cause,” stated Dr. Cocilovo. Many members of the team pushed themselves well beyond what they thought they were capable of and as a result found the experience both motivating and rewarding.

This year the group has two goals – to raise $10,000 and involve as many people as possible. To meet these objectives they are organizing two Gladiator teams; one to take on the more difficult Spartan Sprint and another to participate in “The Color Run” which will take place the same weekend. “The Color Run is billed by the founders as the ‘Happiest 5k on the Planet’ – their goal falls directly in line with the ideals we have promoted in our office for 25 years -- getting people active and living a healthier lifestyle,” stated Dr. Cocilovo. During the un-timed race, participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer and waiting at the end is a ‘Finish Festival’ complete with music and dancing. “By having two teams and adding The Color Run we can include folks who are looking for a simpler challenge, and we believe helping others is always a good motivator!” added Dr. Cocilovo.

To assist with reaching their goal of raising over $10,000, New City Chiropractic Center is offering a free consultation and chiropractic treatment to new patients who visit the office in April and May and make a donation of any size. “With the snow finally melting, we know that people will soon be getting outdoors to participate in spring sports and activities and we’re offering them a chance to do something for themselves as well as for someone else,” stated Dr. Gil Rodriguez.
