[Update]Poll: Jets, Broncos Finalize Deal for Tebow

ESPN is reporting that the New York Jets and the Denver Broncos have finalized deal that will send quarterback Tim Tebow to New York. The Jets will send a fourth-round and sixth-round pick to the Broncos in exchange for Tebow and a seventh-round pick.

UPDATE: ESPN is reporting that the New York Jets and the Denver Broncos has been agreed upon.

The teams agreed on a deal earlier in the day, but trade talks broke down due to complications over the amount of salary and signing bonus money that has already been paid to Tebow. The Jacksonville Jaguars were also interested in obtaining Tebow and were close to making a deal happen before the Jets managed to finalize a trade, according to ESPN.

UPDATE: Several news outlets are reporting that deal to send quarterback Tim Tebow from the Denver Broncos to the New York Jets has been held up due to salary complications.

The two teams are still trying to figure out who will pay more than $5 million in salary that is stilled owed to Tebow. Check back for more information as it becomes available.

------------------------

Tim Tebow made headlines with his faith and his football last season, leading the Denver Broncos on a surprising playoff run.

Tebow became the Broncos' starter six games into last season, helping Denver win the AFC West Championship despite completing only 46.5 percent of his passes. Tebow pulled off a series of dramatic comebacks and turned in the game of his career to lead the Broncos to a victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs. Among those dramatic endings was Tebow's 20-yard touchdown run with 58 seconds remaining to give the Broncos a 17-13 victory over the Jets.

Tebow became expendable when the Broncos signed Peyton Manning to a five-year, $96 million contract. Jay Glazer of FoxSports reported Wednesday that Tebow has been traded to the New York Jets for a fourth and sixth round draft choice.

Now Tebow, whose NFL jerseys were among the top sellers before he even became a starter, moves to the nation's largest media market for a potential battle with Mark Sanchez to be the Jets quarterback.

There is no word yet on what his role will be with the team. Tebow grabs attention with his frank discussion of his strong religious faith as much as his play on the field, so both could generate plenty of converation. He even brought the term "Tebowing" into the national vocabulary, a reference to his kneeling in prayer after scoring a touchdown.

We want to know what you think of the move.

This is a really stupid move (and I am not a football fan). I was listening to Mike Francessa (who I am not a big fan of) on WFAN before. I don't think I've ever heard him so angry as he was about this. He felt it was an incredibly stupid move only done for publicity. Joe Beningo (who was on the air when it was announced and is a Jets fan) had the line of the day. He was talking about how the NFL had come down hard on the Saints for their bounty system (head coach was suspending for a year, and other stuff). Beningo said "Can the NFL come down hard on the Jets for stupidity?".

lets see - he won 2 college national championships - and got the Broncos in the playoffs. the kid is a winner...

ACTUALLY, this may be good. If the opposition is as confused as the fans maybe we can score a few touchdowns. Fran Tarkington did ok running around for the Giants.m

Can you see Tim and Cromartie sitting Down together having a chat?

Mark "I can't throw" Sanchez SUCKS. If the Jets want to keep playing like a bunch of losers, they will keep him as thier started. If they want to start winning, kick him to the curb and replace him with Tebow.....NUFF SAID
Bill March 21, 2012 at 07:49 pm
Tebow can't throw, either. And based on what I heard on WFAN, his success is mostly because he can run instead of throwing. But if they bring him in for some plays instead of Sanchez, the other team will know what is coming and it won't be a surprise.
The biggest gain for the Jets on this deal is jersey sales and publicity from people who don't realize how stupid it is.

Tebow will certainly be an asset with the "Wildcat". Remember they loved to use that formation before Brad Smith went to the Bills. JM Tuckahoe, NY

Jeff -- so misguided. The Jets have 3 quarterbacks on payroll and just signed Sanchez for 3 years $45 million. Either they are going to clean house or turn Tebow into a running back. There is precedent...
Chrysogonus Waddell March 21, 2012 at 09:52 pm
The only reason the Jets got T-Bone is to light a fire under Sanchez. The last two years, Sanchez had nothing to worry about. He could eat hot dogs on the sidelines, pose for GQ, act bored during games, and nothing would happen since the team had no viable qb backup. Now he's got to shape up. T-Bone's no great shakes, either, but he seems to have a will to play that the California dope Sanchez doesn't.
Bill March 21, 2012 at 09:57 pm
And yet, they just gave him (Sanchez) this big contract. Does this make them even bigger idiots if you're claiming that they think he's not very good?
The only reason they got him was to sell seats and jerseys. And maybe not if they can't come to some agreement on this $5m payment that they found in the contract. Too funny that they didn't find out about it before announcing the deal.
Chrysogonus Waddell March 21, 2012 at 10:25 pm
Oh, they're definitely idiots. They've got a blowhard coach, blowhard players and now, apparently, blowhard upper management. Anything to cause a spectacle and nothing to win a game. I've long thought that the Jets will never get to the Super Bowl until they change their name. There's just too much baggage with being called a Jet. You're doomed from the get-go. And just changing into a Titans uniform a couple of times a year is not enough. They need a complete name and uniform change and should probably abandon green as well. Next season: 2-14, Sanchez benched in third game.

The reason the broncos went anywhere this season is because of their kicker. It's sad he doesn't get the recognition for his 2 field goals that won their most important games. In both of those games Tebows completion passes were actually lower then in his other games. Before you believe in the "hype " compare his completion pass and td passes with other greats. There's no comparison. He has a long way to go. Sorry Jets fans.

I think the Jets gave Isaiah Thomas a consultant job.

Um...John Elway completed 47.5 percent of his passes in his first 11 games (10 starts). Through Elway's first 16 games he had a completion rate of 48.75 percent and 2469 yd passing 11 td and 21 int 200 yd rushing 1 td, an 8-8 record and a loss in his first playoff game. Tim Tebow in his first 16 games completed 47.3 percent of his passes. 2383 yards passing 17 td and 9 int. Oh, wait a minute Tebow also ran for how many yards? 887 and 12 td rushing in those same 16 games...so that's a total of 3270 all purpose yards. Total of 29 td and 9 int in his first 16 starts and 9-7 record with a playoff win. Who says the guy can't pass? He threw for 316 yards against the Steelers number 1 ranked defense. Give him a chance to improve. He had no offseason because of the lockout. Elway had that chance as he was a below average QB his first few seasons on a good team. Tim Tebow took a bad team and made them better. Say what you want...stats don't lie. Tim was better than Elway in his first 16 starts. Elway is jealous of Tebow and couldn't wait to ship this guy out. Didn't want Tebow to be the next Bronco Legend. There can be only one...Elway! He never wanted to help Tebow or he would of put him as backup to Manning and used him in package situations. Just wanted him far far away from his glory. Tim was stealing his thunder (Tebow had his own billboard paid by fans) I hope he gets TEBOWED if the Jets and Broncos meet in the playoffs. Jets got a steal of a deal with Tebow.
Bill March 24, 2012 at 02:19 am
That would be great if the Jets got him to be their #1 QB. They already committed $25mil to Sanchez, in fact they did it just last week. Do you think he's going to be the starting QB for the Jets?
Matt Burrill March 24, 2012 at 02:45 am
The move itself does not make sense. But if you look deeper into the deal the Jets have Tony Sparano, The father, creator and master of the "Wildcat" system that Tebow would thrive in. One of the Jets biggest problems this season was scoring in the redzone. Tebow will come in handy there but he will also create tons and tons of problems like the 1st time "Marky Mark" throws a pick Fireman Ed and the rest of MetLife Stadium will be chanting one thing... TEBOW TEBOW TEBOW !! Denver witg Kyle Orton all over again.
Should gone to Jacksonville and had nice homecoming with fanbase

I am not a football expert but doesn't the Wildcat only work if it's a surprise? How will it be a surprise if you're switching QB's before the play?
CTR March 24, 2012 at 03:28 pm
Jacksonville didn't really want him that bad. They were only willing to give up one 4th round pick and 3 million in kickback. Jets gave up a 4th and 6th round and 2.53 million in kickback. If the Jags really wanted him they would of gave up a 2nd or 3rd round pick or a 4th round and an additional pick or the 4th round pick and 5 million in kickback that was stated in the contract. Sometimes it's home where your wanted back the least. They were just in it to appease the fans. Hey we tried but the Jets got him. Even the owner of the Jags said he was happy with the outcome and is looking forward to Blane Gilbert being their future. Doesn't sound like the guy was the least bit disappointed.
Matt Burrill March 24, 2012 at 06:44 pm
Teams still throw in the wildcat
Or you can run a Wing T set like north does with play actions motions and other shifts. Should be intriguing to watch
Lars Franck March 26, 2012 at 08:05 pm
Tebow doesn't have a track record of picking up 17 year old girls and having sex with them ... nor does he have a spouse unrepentantly posting pornographic videos to Youtube .. all parts of the current 'culture' of the NY Jets.
In a league filled with felons, tatted-up gansters, baby mama makers ... it's good to have one man that my young son can look up to. And does.
Bill March 27, 2012 at 04:20 am
How's your son going to feel about him not being the starting QB?

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing.
