Convicted Killer McCain Denied Parole

Robert McCain will remain in prison.

McCain, one of two men convicted in the murder of 16-year-old Paula Bohovesky of Pearl River in 1980, was denied in his latest parole hearing.

McCain and Richard LaBarbera were both sentenced to 25-years-to-life in prison. They became eligible for parole in 2005 and each gets a hearing every two years.LaBarbera's request for parole was denied in May

"I guess the older I get, the more difficult it is ot face this thing," said Lois Bohovesky, Paula's mother. "I'm glad it's over. It's hard. "

Lois Bohovesky speaks at the hearings each time McCain and LaBarbara come up for parole. Normally, her son Peter joins her, but he is in the middle of a two-year teaching contract in Cyprus.

"The older I get, the more I miss her," Bohovesky said. "I think about our children that are not here and how much easier Peter's life would be if he had his sister. It really piles on. I'm always ware of it. You never get over it. You learn to handle it, but it doesn't get any easier."

Local officials have brought pressure to keep both in jail. Rockland County Legislator John Murphy, Bob Baird, Bill Schule and Orangetown Councilmen Tom Diviny and Denis Troy created www.PetitioinforPaula.com and distributed paper petitions locally. The Rockland County Legislature and Orangetown Council have both passed resolutions calling for both men to be denied parole.

"It's very gratifying," Lois Bohovesky said. "If they ever got out and did this again, I'm not sure I could survive that."

LaBarbera and McCain will again be eligible for parole in 2015.
