Driver Charged with DWI on Route 303

Car stopped for moving erratically.

A Spring Valley man has been charged with drunken driving after he was stopped by police for driving erratically on Route 303, according to the Rockland County Sheriff's Department.

Covington Exantus, 28, of Spring Valley, was stopped on Route 303 in Blauvelt at 2:13 a.m. Wednesday by a Sheriff's officer. Police said Exantus appeared intoxicated and was arrested.

He was taken to the Rockland County Sheriff's Headquarters in New City, where police said Exantus refused to take a chemical breath test for alcohol. Exantus was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, consumption of alcohol in a vehicle, a violation, and given a ticket for an unsafe lane change.

He was arraigned in Orangetown Town Court in Orangeburg and ordered held in the Rockland County Correctional Facility in New City on $500 bail pending a hearing on Aug. 8.
