Former Congers Resident Attending SUNY Cortland Dies at Age 19

Raven Mednick’s body was found in her dorm room on Saturday.

A SUNY College at Cortland spokesman confirmed the body of Raven A. Mednick, formerly of Congers, was found in her dorm room on Saturday afternoon. Frederic Pierce said the cause of the sophomore’s death is “under investigation by local police.”

Pierce said on Tuesday there is no indication that there was foul play or anyone else was involved in the 19-year-old’s death. Mednick, who graduated from Clarkstown North High School in 2011, was studying to become a social studies teacher.

“We’re devastated anytime there is a loss regardless of cause,” said Pierce.

He said the campus was informed of her death on Monday and counseling is available for the students.  The school was on a fall break from Friday through Sunday and Pierce said many students were not on the campus over the long weekend.  He said the college was planning a memorial service to remember Mednick.

“It’s very sad,” said Pierce. “It’s a close-knit community, it hurts.”

Survivors include: her mother, Erika Mednick of Poughkeepsie; father, Alan Mednick of MA; brother, Michael Mednick; sister, Candice; maternal grandmother, Inger DiGirolamo; paternal grandmother, Myrna Renihardt; four aunts, Brenda, Marsha, Fran, Jamie; uncle Scott and many cousins. She was predeceased by her grandfathers, John DiGirolamo and Herbert Mednick

Visiting hours will be held at the Stroyan Funeral Home at 405 W. Harford Street in Milford, PA on Wednesday, October 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Stroyan Funeral Home on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

IHavenanOpinion - The article states the police are investigating and no cause of death has been released. It also says no foul play is suspected. Robin

Sadly, this sounds like an undiagnosed medical condition or a suicide.
