Motorcyclist Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident in Sloatsburg

A 32-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle hit a concrete barrier while riding south on Route 17 near Harriman Avenue Friday morning. UPDATE: Police identified the victim as John Vaillencourt of Ramsey, NJ.

Ramapo Police were called to the site of a fatal motorcycle accident at approximately 2:04 a.m. Friday morning on southbound Route 17 near in Sloatsburg.

Police have identified the victim as 32-year-old John Vaillencourt of Ramsey, NJ, the operator of the motorcycle. He was declared dead on the scene by Rockland County Paramedics. 

Ramapo Police Sgt. Richard O'Donnell said that accident investigators determined that Vaillencourt was riding his 2012 Yamaha motorcycle "at a high rate of speed prior to the accident."

Route 17 was partially closed between Harriman Ave. and the Sterling Mine Road Exit Friday morning. The accident site was completely cleared by 10:30 a.m. O'Donnell said that police were able to redirect traffic through the site with the exception of a few brief closures for measurements related to the investigation.

Volunteers with Sloatsburg Ambulance also responded to the accident.
