Murder Indictment for Postal Worker Accused of Strangling Girlfriend

White Plains postal worker Nixon Bourguignon was indicted today on one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A” Felony, in the killing of Shannon Coleman.
"The defendant has been charged with a shocking and despicable crime of violence against his girlfriend," said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe.
Police Bourguignon strangled Coleman during an argument May 7 inside the family's residence at the MountainSide apartment complex in Haverstraw.
She had two young sons, who were in the apartment during the attack. Neither was injured or witnessed the killing. Bourguignon, 37, is the father of the younger child.

The couple had lived together in the second-floor apartment for several years. News reports said Coleman was trying to end the relationship.
An autopsy report by the Office of the Rockland County Medical Examiner will be concluded within a few months.
Arraignment on the indictment is pending. Bourguignon has been held in the Rockland County Jail since his arrest.
Supervising Assistant District Attorney Dominic Crispino is prosecuting the case.
