O&R Workers Strike Gas Line in Pearl River

Volunteers with the Pearl River Fire Department responded as workers with Orange and Rockland Utilities worked to repair the gas line on Grand Avenue.

Volunteers with the Pearl River Fire Department and Ambulance Corps were called to the scene of a damaged gas line on Grand Ave. near Fairfield Ave. in Pearl River Thursday afternoon.

Workers with Orange & Rockland Utilities struck the gas line while putting in a utility pole. The gas to the line was quickly shut down and O&R is repairing the damage. O&R asked for the fire department to respond shortly after 1 p.m.

Pearl River Hook and Ladder and Excelsior Engine Company both sent volunteers to the scene as a precaution. First Lt. Joel Spoelstra said that they also checked homes in the neighborhood for gas.

Traffic was blocked from going on to Grand Ave. from Route 304 due to the incident.
