Orangetown Officlals Cancel Trick or Treating, Postpone Halloween Activities to Saturday

Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart and Police Chief Kevin Nulty canceled all Halloween activities Wednesday and asked residents to postpone Halloween activities including trick or treating until Saturday.

Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart and Chief of Police Kevin Nulty sent out a release late Wednesday morning canceling all Halloween activities today and asking residents to postpone them until Saturday.

This is a change from Tuesday afternoon, when Orangetown officials stopped at advising residents to use "extreme caution" when trick or treating due to potentially dangerous conditions created by Hurricane Sandy.

The Pearl River Chamber of Commerce had arleady canceled the annual trick or treating in downtown and Piermont announced Tuesday that it was cancelling all Halloween activities.

Orange and Rockland Utilities issued a warning Wednesday morning that there are still downed wires and damaged wires that could be a threat to people out trick or treating. Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef and Pearl River Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Morgano were also among those who advised parents against allowing theri children trick or treating Tuesday.
