Orangetown Police Asking Residents to Restrict Halloween Activities to Daytime

Orangetown Police are also advising caution for drivers with many traffic lights in town still out.

The Orangetown Police Department sent out a request for town residents to restrict their Halloween activites to daylight hours due to hazards still remaining from the Oct. 29 snow storm.

Among the issues are residents without power, trafic signals that are not working and wet conditions from snow still on the ground.

"This is a request, but we are hoping people can follow the request," said Orangetown Police Lt. Donald Butterworth. "It is not a curfuw at this point. Safety of our young people is the important aspect."

The request does not apply to the trick or treating at downtown businesses in Pearl River, which is only from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

"We don't consider that an issue at this point because it is in daylight," Butterworth said.

Orangetown Police are still dealing with widespread traffic issues due lights that are not working. Butterworth cited three locations that are major concerns at this point.

  • Orangeburg Road and Dutch Hill Road in Orangeburg - no traffic lights
  • Veterans Memorial Drive and Blue Hill Road in Pearl River - no traffic lights.
  • Convent Road - still closed due to downd poll, tree and wires.

"We have four-way stop signs going, which causes backup," Butterworth said. "We want people to use caution at those intersections."
