Orangetown Police Collecting Unused Medication Saturday

The Orangetown Police Department also began collecting drugs every Satruday from noon to 6 p.m. starting Oct. 19.

The Orangetown Police Department will be collecting unused and expired medication Satuday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its headquarters at 26 Orangeburg Road in Orangeburg. The Federal Drug Enforcement Adminstration is working on the collection with Orangetown Police, who also have aid from the Orangetown Substance Abuse Committee.

There will also be collections this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CVS Pharmacy locations on Middletown Road in Pearl River and in Orangetown Shopping Center in Orangeburg.

Such collections allow for the proper disposal of prescription medications which might otherwise be improperly used or pose a threat to the environment if flushed down a toilet.

Orangetown Police also announced that they began holding drug collections every Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. only at the police station.

Medications can be left in their containers, but the collection efforts will not accept hazardous household waste or needles.
