Paralyzed NYPD Det. McDonald to Speak at St. Margaret Church

Steven McDonald, a NYPD detective who became an inspirational public speaker after being shot and paralyzed from the neck down in 1986, will speak Monday at a Holy Week Prayer service of reconciliation at St. Margaret Church in Pearl River.

Steven McDonald was a 28-year-old NYPD detective when he was shot in the line of duty July 12, 1986, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down.

McDonald used the notoriety he gained to spread messages of forgiveness and non-violence through public speaking.

McDonald will speak 7 p.m. Monday at St. Margaret Church in Pearl River as part of a holy week prayer service that is open to all.
