Pearl River Firefighters Rescue Worker Outside Blue Hill Plaza

A man was trapped over 20 feet in the air while working on a light pole outside Blue Hill Plaza Tuesday morning.

Volunteers with the Pearl River Fire District responded to help an electrical worker who was stuck over 20 feet in the air outside Blue Hill Plaza Tuesday morning.

"The guy was working on a light pole and he was in an older truck," said Jim Morrison of Pearl River Hook and Ladder. "The hydraulic system failed, leaving him stuck 20 or 25 feet up in the air. What made things a little difficult was a part of the light was in the bucket with him.

"We had to cut the light, then take the light out of there and get him out of there."

Morrison said the worker was not injured, just cold after being trapped for approximately 30-to-45 minutes.

"Other than that, he was just happy to be out of there," Morrison said. "For a little while there, he was a little afraid he was going to fall out. We talked to him and told him we'd get him out and we did. Our guys did a great job."
