We received notification this evening from the Orangetown Police Department that at approximately 3:40PM today, a suspicious person wearing a black ski mask followed a female high school student who was on the middle school trail in the area in front of the Pearl River Middle School.

The student reported this activity to the police who promptly investigated but were unable to locate the suspicious person for questioning.

Here's the alert the Nanuet school district sent out on Tuesday:

Since Montvale, New Jersey is a town nearby, I think it is important to make you aware of an incident that occurred there yesterday.  It was reported by the Montvale police that at 3:25P yesterday a girl walking home from Fieldstone Middle School was approached by the driver of a newer black SUV.  She was walking toward Grand Avenue when the driver offered her $1,000 to get in his car.  Thankfully, the girl screamed, ran away, and the police were notified.  A similar incident occurred in Allendale, New Jersey a few weeks ago.

Given that the safety and well-being of our children is always of paramount importance, I recommend that this is a good time to review with your children some basic safety guidelines.  Specifically,  that they should never approach a strange vehicle, should ALWAYS run away from strangers who attempt to lure them in their cars, and ALWAYS report any such incident to an adult and the police immediately.
