Pearl River Woman Accused of DWI after Accident in School Parking Lot

Police: Woman drove through fence at Franklin Avenue Elementary, hit utility pole.

A Pearl River woman was charged with drunken driving after she drove through a fence at Franklin Avenue Elementary School in Pearl River and slammed into a utility pole, according to Orangetown police.

Police said Maureen P. Maye, 49, of 50 Hawk St. sustained minor head injuries in the 2:11 a.m. Saturday accident and was taken to Nyack Hospital by volunteers of Pearl River Ambulance Corps.

Maye, police said, was attempting to leave the school parking lot in her 2004 Toyota when she drove through a fence separating the school lot and an Orangetown municipal parking lot. Police said Maye next hit a utility pole, causing a light on top of the pole to break off and shatter when it hit the pavement.
