The Spring Valley Fire Department received a call at 10:38 a.m. Wednesday morning about a . Eventually, 12 fire departments were called in to assist with the blaze, and it took about two and a half hours to get things under control.

Gordon Wren, Rockland County's fire coordinator, said 15 apartments were badly damaged in the fire, and estimated the building contains 30-plus apartments. The entire building complex was evacuated and the power was turned off. As of 3:30 p.m., the power was trying to be restored for the apartments that weren’t affected by the fire. The displaced families have the option of staying at at Spring Valley High School.
