Police: Man Nabbed In Rockland Break-In Suspected In Burglary Spree

22-year-old from Orange County under investigation for possible links to residential burglaries in NY and NJ.

Fast-action by a police officer who spotted a car suspected to be involved with several burglaries led to the arrest of an Orange County man on burglary and theft charges, according to Stony Point police.

Robert M. Campbell, 22, of 29 Grandview Dr., Bloomingburg, NY, is also being investigated for a possible connection to a series of residential burglaries that have taken place in New York and New Jersey communities.

Campbell is being held in the Rockland County Correctional Facility on $500,000 bail on charges including burglary and attempted burglary in Stony Point. Lt. Keith Williams said the investigation led to the seizure of a car Campbell was using and his home was raided.

Williams said items recovered from the investigation are being examined to determine links to burglaries in the area.

Campbell was spotted late Wednesday morning by at Stony Point detective who recognized the car he was driving as one thought to have been connected to previous incidents in Stony Point. Williams said detectives quickly set up surevillance of Campbell and he was followed to a Stony Point home.

Williams said Campbell was spotted checking out the home, leaving and then returning to the house a short time later. He said police spotted Campbell going into the house and arrested him after he came out of the home.

Campbell is suspected in daylight burglaries at homes that are empty during the day. In addition to being charged in Wednesday's burlgary, Campbell is charged with another attempted burglary in Stony Point.

He is accused of second-degree burglary, second-degree attempted burglary, second- and third-degree criminal trespassing, fourth-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar's tools.
