Police Nab 1 Member of CVS Shoplifting Ring on N. Middletown Road

A 19-year-old Brooklyn woman is due in Orangetown Court April 23 to face charges of grand larceny. Two accomplices evaded arrest.

Police said at 5:32 p.m. April 15 Danielle E. Matthews was observed by store security putting razor-blade cartridges in a bag and trying to leave the CVS Pharmacy at 75 N. Middletown Road in Pearl River without paying for them.

The loss prevention officer at CVS reported that Matthews had taken $1,430 worth of the cartridges from a locked display, placed them in a shopping bag, then tried to leave the store without paying for the merchandise. She fled across North Middletown Road towards Shop Rite when confronted by the security officer.

Orangetown officers caught and arrested her.

Police believe that Matthews was accompanied by 2 other women
who had distracted the store employees while she was stealing the razor blade cartridges. The other women also fled and were not caught.

They also believe the trio is part of an organized ring of thieves
who target CVS stores in the region.

Matthews was taken to OPD headquarters where she was charged with grand larceny 4th degree (felony) and Criminal possession of Stolen Property 4th degree (felony).
