Seventh Teen Arrested In Lake Nanuet Fight

Police report a seventh youth, a New City 18-year-old, was arrested earlier this week in connection with large fight involving bats and a knife at Lake Nanuet

Clarkstown Police said an 18-year-old from New City was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the fight between 30 high school and college students at Lake Nanuet on Saturday, Jan. 12.  Four teens from Pearl River and Nanuet were injured in the fight during which baseball bats and a knife were used and were taken to the hospital.

The New City youth has been charged with third degree assault, a misdemeanor. Police are withholding the teen’s name because he is eligible for youthful offender status.  He was released and is scheduled to appear in Clarkstown Justice Court on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

Seven youths from New City and Congers have now been arrested. According to police, the brawl involved 30 male teens, aged 17 and 18, from Clarkstown North and Nanuet high schools. Police have filed charges including attempted gang assault, assault and criminal possession of a weapon against the six previously arrested.  They have pending court dates on Wednesday, Jan. 30 in Clarkstown Justice Court.

The record can also be sealed, pre-adjudication at the request of the attorneys, and then it is the Court's call.

Rob, don't kid yourself, any teenage (including yours) is only one car ride away from such an incident. It is easy to get wound up in the excitement of such events and make stupid decisions. This was a prearranged 'fight', so everyone there knew something was 'going down'. These kids made poor decisions, something we have all done, unfortunately for them and their victims it had dire consequences. To assume that these kids came from broken homes is just plain arrogant and ignores the fact that as a species we are natural violent.

They are eligible Yo's but since it is a felony charge their names can be released, as they should be. The YO's with lesser charges are entitled to have their names withheld. If you're willing to do the crime then you should be willing to stand the consequences!
