STOP-DWI Enforcement Effort Begins Friday

Rockland County Stop-DWI announced crackdown efforts on driving while intoxicated from June 29 through July 5.

Rockland County law enforcement officers will take part in a state-wide STOP-DWI crackown campaign June 29 through July 5.

According to a press release from Rockland County's STOP-DWI office, those dates represent "the deadliest holiday period fo the year for impaired driving." New York State Police, County Sheriffs and municipal law enfrocement will be out in larger numbers than normal with the goal of keeping the number of injuries and deaths related to drinking and driving down. 

"Highly visible, highly publicized efforts like the STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign aim to warn motorists that DWI is dangerous and considered a seious safety threat by New York's Law enforcement community," said Leslie Chernin, coordinator of STOP-DWI in Rockland County.

The New York State STOP-DWI Association annually promotes similar crackdowns around St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day weekened. There was a similar effort around Thanksgiving last November

Rockland County STOP-DWI also holds an annual breakfast to honor the efforts of law enforcement officers to stop impaired drivers
