Unusual Suspects: The Pinch; Black Bear, Black Bear, What Do You See?; The Italian Job

Recent weird and unusual crime in the Hudson Valley. Reports do not indicate a conviction.

A 14-year-old Hastings-on-Hudson high school student allegedly pinched a 57-year-old woman's butt as she was entering her car. She called police, who found the boy based on her description. The boy was charged with forcible touching and the case was referred to Yonkers Family Court.

New Castle Police sent out an advisory message due to a number of black bear sightings in the area recently. Black bears have been seen on Route 100, Gedney Park, the Douglas Road area and Quaker Rd. near the Duck Pond.  The NY Department of Environmental Conservation said bears will only be asked to leave if they create a public disturbance, act aggressively towards a human or pet, attempt to enter a home, or is injured and cannot move freely to escape.

A man in his 40s has been targeting Harrison residents of Italian descent, according to police. The man knocks on residents' doors and, speaking in Italian, convinces them he is a relative from Italy. After a connection is made, the man asks them for $100 and gives them a leather jacket in return. The jacket is worthless, said police.

School Bus Report 

A 17-year-old Carmel male turned himself into police because of an incident that allegedly took place on a school bus. The male and another student reportedly forced a third student from his seat and caused the third student to lose consciousness. The third student was diagnosed with a head injury at an area hospital.

Clarkstown police responded to a call about an open fire creating a lot of smoke in Nanuet. Upon arrival at the scene, police found an active fire in a metal fire pit. Police said they informed the resident of the town code violation he was committing by operating an outdoor fire. After police identified the resident and attempted to arrest him, the man ran away. Police had to subdue him with the use of a Taser.

A 21-year-old Congers man was charged with reckless endangerment and fleeing police after hitting speeds of more than 100mph on his motorcycle on Rte. 304 in Bardonia, according to police. The motorcycle pulled over in New City where he was arrested.

So the bear rirks being asked to leave the park by the Department of Environmental Conservation?;>)) I hope they have a translator present!
