[UPDATE] Security Guard Recovering from Stab Wounds after Nanuet Mall Attack

Police searching for attacker, who asked guard for a cigarette and then stabbed him.

A security guard is recovering from stab wounds today after he was attacked in a parking lot at the Nanuet Mall by a man who approached him and asked for a cigarette, according to Clarkstown police.

The guard was taken to Nyack Hospital after he was stabbed multiple times in his stomach and back. The wounds, police said, were not life-threatening and the guard was treated and released from the hospital.

Police are looking for the attacker, who was described as:

  •  A black man, from 20 to 30 years old
  •  He was slim built
  •  He has a full beard and short dark hair.
  •  He was wearing black pants, a grey t-shirt and he had a black backpack.

The incident took place about 11 p.m. Wednesday in the upper level parking lot near the Macy's department store at the Nanuet Mall. Although one major shopping structure at the mall and work continues on the demolition of the connecting wings of the mall, the Macy's building and the nearby Sears department store building are not being demolished.

The security guard told police the attacker asked for a cirgarette, and when the guard said he did not have any cigarettes he was stabbed with a sharp object - possibly a knife.
