15th Annual Outstanding Environmental Volunteer Award Presented Next Week

George Potanovic, Jr. to receive award from the county executive.


County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef will present George Potanovic, Jr. with the County Executive’s Outstanding Environmental Volunteer Award for 2012 on Wednesday, April 25.

George Potanovic, Jr. is founder and president of the Stony Point Action Committee for the Environment, which he established in 1990.  He is also founder and administrator of the "RockNet," an environmental newsgroup for Rockland County and beyond. "RockNet" was formed in 1996 and is an information network for environmental activities and issues. Potanovic has dedicated many years of advocacy for Rockland's environment.

The public ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. with a tree planting in his honor at Kennedy Dells County Park in New City. Potanovic’s name will be added to a plaque permanently displayed in the county executive’s Office. He will join previous  recipients including: Bill Baker, Patsy Wooters, Alberto Baruffi, Catherine Dodge, Jeanne and Robert Nelson, S. Hazard Gillespie, Dr. Constantine Gletsos, Charles Schwep, Betty Hedges, Zipporah Fleisher, Colleen and Harold Leidy, George Zoebelein, Geoffrey Welch and Diane Gruskin.

The County Executive's Outstanding Environmental Volunteer Award
recognizes environmental volunteers who care for Rockland's parks, champion its watershed programs, encourage recycling, and enhance and beautify the
environment.
