First of New Safety Signs on 9W To Go Up Today at Tappan Zee Elementary

The New York State Department of Transportation is installing signs to promote bicyclist safety on Route 9W in Rockland County.

The in Rockland County to promote safety for bicycle riders.

NYSDOT Acting Regional Director Bll Gorton will join Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (D-Suffern), other elected officials and representatives of local law enforcement  for the installation of the first new sign noon Monday at Tappan Zee Elementary School in Piermont.

The highly visible signs, which will be posted in Orangetown and Clarkstown, will direct bike riders to safer routes and remind motorists to be aware of bicyclists sharing the road.

As a motorist who actually DOES respect cyclists and who is usually a victim of THEIR inability to follow the rules of the road, I get a little cranky about the "share the road" pleas.
I have witnessed dozens of cyclists run red lights and stop signs. Not slow down and proceed slowly...but just breeze right through with blatant disregard. And I was almost taken out about two years back by a few when I was crossing South Broadway with my infant daughter in her stroller (they had the red). If cyclists want equal treatment, then they really need to learn to follow the rules of the road.

Paved roads were made for cars and trucks.

I SO agree with meh76, and when will these cyclists learn to ride single file to the side of the road-NOT in the middle of the road? They will not move over!

I'd like to see the laws regarding bicycles on roads. People I know who bicycle claim they do not have to ride single file, for instance. Is it municipality by municipality?

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend
