Franklin Avenue 4th Graders to Join Valentines for Veterans Celebration

The Second Annual Valentines for Veterans Celebration will be held 11 a.m. Friday at VFW Ramapo Post 2973 in Suffern.

The Franklin Avenue Elementary School fourth grade class will join State Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) for the second annual Valentines for Veterans Celebration 11 a.m. Friday at VFW Ramapo Post 2973 in Suffern.

The group of 60 fourth graders from one of Pearl River's three elementary schools will present valentines and sing tribute songs to up to 60 Rockland County veterans. They will sing theStar Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, God Bless the USA and Proud of our Veterans. 

"It is always a special occasion when our students can show their appreciation for our brave veterans, particularly in time for Valentine's Day," Carlucci said. "I look forward to sharing in the festivities with our brave men and women, distinguished guests and those that serve on my Veterans Advisory Committee."

The presentation will be part of Carlucci's Veterans Advisory Committee Meeting, which will include William Kraus, Acting Director of the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs. Director of Rockland County Veterans Service Agency Jerry Donnellan, VFW Ramapo Post 2973 Commander Charles Colotta and Franklin Avenue Elementary School Principal Maureen Alaimo will also attend. 

This is not the first time Carlucci has teamed up with a Pearl River School District elementary school to give Valentines to those who serve or have served in the military. Last Feb. 14, Carlucci came to Lincoln Avenue Elementary in Pearl River to help pack up Valentines to be sent to soldiers overseas.
