Locals Hope for Huge Jackpot

Today's Mega Millions Lottery jackpot is already at $540 million.

Orangetown resident Tommy Finnell argued passionately against the potential closing of Broadacres Golf Course in Orangeburg at Thursday's town board meeting

Then he offered his own solution.

"I'll tell you Mr. Supervisor, you may have no problems as far as this goes, because tomorrow, if I win the lottery, I will buy the golf course and give it back to the town," Finnell said.

Finnell was joking, but today's Mega Millions Jackpot has captured the imaginations of many with the largest jackpot in U.S. history at $540 million. More than half a billion dollars is enough to set anybody to dreaming of a life-altering fortune.

The line was about 10 deep at the 7-Eleven in Pearl River Friday afternoon. One man said he bought his tickets Wednesday, then came back for more. The clerk at store said it had been busy all day.
