Orangetown Approves Project Graduation Aid to Local High Schools

The Orangetown Town Board voted unanimously to approve aid to Project Graduation at five local high schools during Tuesday night's meeting.
Project Graduation provides a safe, alcohol-free place to gather and celebrate after graduation ceremonies end. They usually run all night and require that the new graduates stay at the location. Funds also come from the districts, PTAs and students.
Pearl River High School and Tappan Zee High School get larger amounts because their districts are entirely within the Town of Orangetown. Though the town board had discussed reducing the amount of money they contribute in recent years, the contribution remained at the same level as 2012 and 2011.
The aid amounts are as follows:

  • Pearl River High School: $1,500
  • Tappan Zee High School: $1,500
  • Nanuet High School: $750
  • Nyack High School: $750
  • Albertus Magnus High School: $200
Pearl River, Tappan Zee and Nyack will hold their graduation ceremonies June 20.  Project Graduation begins at 11 p.m.
