Orangetown Board Discusses Budget, Pearl River Day Funding

The Orangetown Council will continue working on the 2013 budget at a workshop meeting 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The Orangetown Town Board will discuss the Pearl River Chamber of Commerce request for $2,000 in funds for Pearl River Day during Tuesday's workshop meeting starting 8 p.m. at the town hall.

The money would be used to pay for policing the event. The town has contributed $1,000 for the event in the past. A letter from the Pearl River Chamber of Commerce cited the growing size of the event as the reason to request more money.

The letter is attached to this report as part of the support materials for the meeting. The full agenda is also attached.

The town board will also continue to discuss the 2013 budget Tuesday. Supervisor Andy Stewart's proposed budget is due to the town clerk Sept. 24. During a special meeting Sept. 13, Councilman Denis Troy suggested to Stewart that he prepare a shell of the proposal for tonight's meeting for discussion.

The workshop agenda also includes:

  • Use of Orangetown's showmobile by the JCC Rockland for its "Dog Day at the J" event Sept. 23 at a rental cost of $350 with a certificate of insurance. Normally the JCC, which is in West Nyack, uses Clarkstown's showmobile, but it is unavailable.
  • Award bids for three Orangetown Highway Department vehicles.
  • Accept a $10,500 donation from Howard Dean to fund "Sparkill reek Flood Relief Investigation."
  • Approve new dog license fees: $15 for neutered/spayed, $25 for unneutered/unspayed, $10 late fee, $5 for replacement tag.
  •
