Orangetown Board Honoring Auxiliary Police, Discussing Golf Course Fees

The Orangetown Town Council will hold a police commission meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday followed by a workshop at 8 p.m. at town hall.

The Jack Lyman Awards for Orangetown Auxiliary Police will be presented 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at town hall as part of Orangetown's monthly police commission.

The police commission begins at 7 p.m. with a town board workshop set for 8 p.m. The full agenda for the workshop, with backup materials, is attached to this report.

Items for discussion will include:

  • Drafting a RPC redevelopment plan
  • Waiving buiilding fee for Palisades Free Library
  • An agreement between the town and the New York State Department of Transportation regarding the maintenance of sidewalks on Route 303.
  • Awarding bids for goose control at Veterans Memorial Park and Blue Hill Golf Course.
  • The 2013 fee schedules for Blue Hill and Broadacres Golf Courses.

The proposed changs in the golf fees include a decrease from $30 to $20 for youth residents and the addition of a youth associate permit, which would cost $30.

The fee for shotgun outings could also be decreased, from $70 to $65.

"Many of our long-standing groups expressed their concerns over this rate being too high in 2012," Orangetown Superintendent of Parks and Recreation Aric T. Gorton wrote in a memo on the fees. "We are also aware that other area courses are far more flexible with regard to their outing fees, often charging below posted rate and undercutting our fee."

Gorton wrote that he and the members of Orangtown's Golf Committee disagreed on the permit fee for Associate members for 2013. Gorton suggest lowering it from $100 to $95 due to decreasing numbers of registered associate members. The committee recommends $90.
