Orangetown Board to Hold Orangeburg Commons Hearing

The Orangetown Board will consider greens fees and a new vendor for the food concessions at Veterans Memorial Park at its regular board meeting 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Orangetown Town Hall.

Months of debate regarding the Orangeburg Commons project will finally lead to a public hearing regarding the developer's request for a revised special permit set for 8:05 p.m. tonight.

The public hearing will be part of the regular town board meeting, which begins 7:30 p.m. in the Orangetown Town Hall. The full agenda for the meeting can be found on the town website here and in the PDF form attached to this article.

The Orangetown Town Board first granted developers a special permit for the Orangeburg Commons project to be built at 170 Route 303 in Orangeburg in 2006, but financial issues forced the project to be put aside.

FB Orangetown, LLC submitted a request to amend the special permit to accommodate changes to the site plan June 28 of last year, sparking a contentious process that even led to an advertising campaign against the board by the developers' representatives.

Before the hearing on Orangeburg Commons will be one to discuss the board's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) recommendation. Though there are normally multiple recommendations, this year it is likely the rehabilitation of sidewalks in Blauvelt and Orangeburg wil be the only one.

Among other items on the agenda are:

  • Greens fees for Blue Hill Golf Course and Blauvelt Golf Course as recommended by Superintendent of Parks and Recreation Aric Gorton and the town's golf advisory committee.
  • Assigning the lease for concessions at Veterans Park and the batting cage to Chasing 28 LLC, represented by Keith Phillips. Current Vendor Mitchell Weissberg has asked out of its contract a year early. Chasing 28 LLC was the runner-up for the conract two years ago.
  • Awarding bids for purchasing police uniforms and for their dry cleaning adn repair.

One item that was not on the agenda for tonight but was discussed in last week's workshop is the appointment of Mureen P. Toal as Deputy Receiver of Taxes. The board questioned Receiver of Taxes Bob Simon regarding the need for the position at the workshop.
