Orangetown Board to Vote on Police Management Contracts, Budget Schedule

When the Orangetown Council voted to approve a five-year contract with Orangetown Police in June, that deal did not include management.

That left Police Chief Kevin Nulty, Captain Robert Zimmerman and Donald Butterworth, then a lieutenant, operating on the terms of their 2010 contracts because management deals are negotiated separately.

The town board will vote during its meeting 7:30 p.m. tonight at town hall on new four-year contracts with Nulty, Zimmerman and Butterworth, who is now a captain.

As with the deals with the rest of the department, the management contracts are retroactive. They run from Jan. 1, 2011 to Dec. 31, 2014.

The full agenda and supporting materials for tonight's meeting can be found on the Orangetown website here

The town council is also expected to vote on a calendar for developing the 2014 budget. The first date is June 25, when Orangetown department heads must submit capital budgets for 2014 and capital improvement plans for 2014 through 2018.

Other key dates include the Supervisor submitting a proposed 2014 budget Sept. 24, a public hearing to consider a resolution allowing the board to override the state mandated tax cap Oct. 22, a public hearing on the preliminary budget Nov. 12 and the legal deadline to adopt the 2014 budget Nov. 18.
