Orangetown Board Votes to Upgrade Police Communications System

Rockland Firm Retained to Address Flooding in Sparkill Creek

The Orangetown Board voted to upgrade the police communications system and awarded a contract to a county engineering firm for flood mitigation in Sparkill Creek among other items on yesterday night’s agenda.   

Councilman Michael Maturo was not present but every resolution approved by the lawmakers was passed unanimously.  

The approval of a 60-month lease with Goosetown Communications for microwave equipment will carry a cost of $34,170 semi-annually and $341,700 for the term of the agreement.  Councilman Nancy Low-Hogan noted that the action is being taken, “To eliminate dead spots in the town’s police radios.”

Orangetown will also enter into an agreement with the McLaren Engineering Group of West Nyack for an amount not to exceed $333,800.00 for the Sparkill Creek project.

  • Approval of tax certiorari settlements totaling almost $26,000.
  • Authorization of an intermunicipal agreement between Orangetown  and Rockland County providing for $171,865 as partial reimbursement from the county for the compensation costs of the services on the Rockland County Narcotics Task Force of one Orangetown police officer
  • Approval of disciplinary action by the Orangetown police chief against an Orangetown Police Department employee
  • Entering into an agreement with the law firm of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker to provide assistance pertaining to the anticipated purchase of the Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center and development of property related to other portions of the site
  • An agreement with the county that will allow the town clerk to sell “Super Saver” tickets for the Rockland County Transportation of Rockland bus lines.
