Orangetown Highway Department Changes Drop-Off Schedule for 2012

The drop-off center will be open three days per week and alternating Saturdays beginning Jan. 3, 2012.

The Orangetown Highway Department changed its hours of operation effective Jan. 3 as part of the 2012 budget process.

The drop-off center will now be open three days per week, with alternating Saturdays. The full schedule, including holidays, is available here.

Orangetown Highway Superintendent Jim Dean brought the schedule before the town board last week for comments and approval.

"You did a good job on it," said Councilman Denis Troy. "I suppport it 100 percent."

From April through November, drop-off center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The schedule is 8 a.m. to noon from December through March.

Among acceptable items are furniture, appliances, brush, leaves, grass, carpeting, water heaters, mowers, bicycles, batteries, cardboard and empty water-based paint cans.

Unacceptable items for the drop-off center include construction debris such as sheetrock and flooring, renovation/remodeling materials, hazerdous waste, household refuse, rock, tires and wet oil-based and water-based paint cans.

The drop-off center is available to Orangetown residents only and a permit is required.
