Orangetown May Increase Sales Fees

The Orangetown Council will hold a public hearing before voting on a resolution to increase the fee for hawking and peddling in town.

The Town of Orangetown Code defines hawking and peddling as selling goods and services by "going from house to house, place of business to place of business, or in any public street or public place, or by temporarily occupying a room, building or other premises."

Orangetown requires a license to engage in such sales and the town board is considering a resolution to increase the fee from its current $250 per year. There will be a public hearing on the matter 8 p.m. tonight as part of the regular town board meeting, which starts at 7:30 p.m. in town hall.

The full agenda and supporting materials for tonight's meeting are attached to this report.

Among other items on the agenda:

  • Set the public hearing for 2013 Community Development Block Grants for Jan. 29.
  • Extend agreement with Wilson, Elsner, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker to represent Orangetown in New York State matters for all of 2013.
  • Accept the retirement of lt. Joseph Holahan from the Orangetown Police Department.
