Orangetown Police Open House To Include Operation Medicine Cabinet

A representative of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency will collect unwanted and unused prescription medications at the Orangetown Police Department's Annual Open House Saturday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency will take part in the Orangetown Police Department's Annual Open House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.

The DEA will be collecting unwanted or expired prescription medications at the event so they can be disposed of properly. The Orangetown Police Department, Orangetown Substance Abuse Committee and Rockland County Sherriff's office hold similar Operation Medicine Cabinet events in town at least twice a year, including this one in May at the CVS Pharmacies in Pearl River and Orangeburg.

The goal is to keep prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands. There has been an issue in town and in many other places with young people taking prescription drugs to get high. They also want to keep people from flushing drugs, which can then get into the water system.

The Orangetown Substance Abuse Committee has also renewed its request for residents to put their emergency text number, 845-826-4026, into their phones. The number can be used to anonymously notify the Orangetown Police Department of any unsafe or suspicious activity.
