Orangetown Presents Highway Dept. Awards

The Town of Orangetown Highway Department gave out awards for 2010 before Tuesday's town board meeting.

Orangetown Superintendent of Highways James Dean recognized work done by members of the community and his own department Tuesday night at the Orangetown Town Board Meeting.

The 2010 Highway Awards Presentation honored students and supervisors from the Summit School Summer Youth Employment Program. The Summit School and Children's Residence Center, which is in Nyack, works with students with adjustment difficulties.

Dean recognized Summit Principal Brant Goldsmith, supervisors Shulton Whitley, Kyle Hassell and Sy Samuals and students Solomon Barnwell, Angelina Bowkett, Max Carleton, Patrick Chmela, Richard Davis, Matthew Field, Jonathan Georgens, Kyle Gordon, Alex May, Christopher Melville, Patricia Monje, Brandon Price, Phillip Puppola, Robert Ramer, Rachel Safran, Phillip Simon and Matthew Tegano.

"For the town of Orangetown, it has been great, free labor. We really appreciate them coming," Dean said.

Beautification Awards were given to the American Dream Diner, owned by Tom Boutas, and Caribbean Food Delights, owned by Vincent HoSang. Both establishments are on Route 303.

First Commerical/Residential Adopt-A-Spot recognition was given to Blue Sky Landscape, Hector May, Nick Hogan and Paul Connell. The five-year anniversaries of two Adopt-A-Spots were acknowledged -- one mantained by the Pearl River Garden Club and the other the Linda Lane Garden. Adopt-A-Spot allows residents or groups to select a spot where they will work to make it more attractive.

The Orangetown Highway Department also earned a distinction this past year, the 2010 Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award. Dean also gave out perfect attendance awards to four men in his department -- Brian DeBonis, Mike Dillon, Anthony Limandri and General Foreman Michael Yannazzone.
