"The town council will be looking at the function of volunteer committes to do what we can to support them. That may mean recruiting people with very particular skill sets or clarifying missions. It may mean inventing new committes if needed."

Former Supervisor Paul Whalen, whose term ended at the close of December, recommended in November that the town board form committees for economic development and finance.

"Those sound like great ideas to me," Stewart said.

For now, the focus is on filling the openings on the current committees. To apply, send a resume and cover letter to Donna Morrison, Town of Orangetown, 26 Orangeburg Road, Orangeburg, NY 10962 or via email to dmorrison@orangetown.com by Jan. 14, 2012.
