The snow started to fall early this afternoon and there is a winter weather advisory for Rockland County until 6 a.m. Thursday. The National Weather Service forecast calls for three to six inches of snow, heavy at times, with winds from 40 to 60 miles per hour.
The winter weather brings another challenge to the area, which is still recovering from Hurricane Sandy. At last report, 1,034 O&R customers in Orangetown were without power, including 650 in Pearl River.
The Orangetown Board will meet as scheduled tonight, with a police commission at 7 p.m. and a meeting with public budget hearings at 8 p.m., but the hearing on the 2013 Orangetown budget will continue into the next town board meeting Nov. 13 so taxpayers who can't make it tonight will be able to attend.
Pearl River Schools canceled all after-school activities after 5 p.m. and adult education classes for Wednesday. For more cancellations, go here.
