Pearl River Alumni Plan Freeze Mob to Honor Bohovesky

The Freeze Mob set for Jan. 7 is meant to raise awareness just before convicted murderer Robert McCain faces a hearing with the New York State Parole Board in January.

Convicted killer Robert McCain's latest hearing before the New York State Parole Board is scheduled for mid-January after being postponed for the second time earlier this month.

McCain and Richard LaBarbara were both sentenced to 25-years-to-life in prison after being convicted of murdering 16-year-old Paula Bohovesky of Pearl River Oct. 28, 1980. Both became eligible for parole in 2005, giving them the right to hearings every years.

Bohovesky's former classmates are organizing a freeze mob in 4 p.m. Jan. 7 at Braunsdorf Park in Pearl River to honor Bohovesky's memory, support her family and protest the potential release of the men who were convicted of killing her.

"None of us wants them back here," said Bohovesky's mother, Lois. "Everyt time this happens, my fingernails get shorter."

In a freeze mob, participants freeze in place on cue and remain motionless for a set amount of time. According to the event Facebook page, which can be found here, 62 people have signed up to participate, but the mob will likely be larger. Documentary filmmaker Kyle Mumford will film the freeze mob and edit it for a YouTube video.
