Pearl River Saturday Packed With Options

Pearl River LIttle League Opening Day, the John Bellew 5K and Fun Run and the Orangetown Cleanup/Tree Planting are all set for Saturday morning.

The 8th Annual Lt. John G. Bellew Memorial 5K and Kids Fun Run will begin 9 a.m. Saturday at Pearl River Hook and Ladder, but it is just one part of a busy Saturday morning in town.

Two weeks ago, rain forced the postponement of Pearl River Little League's opening day festivities, which will now begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Later that week, Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart announced an Orangetown Cleanup Day the same morning. The event begins at 9 a.m. with an Arbor Day tree planting set for 10 a.m.

The 5K and Kids Fun Run raise money for the John Bellew Memorial Fund. Lt. John Bellew was a Pearl River resident and fireman with the FDNY who was killed in the line of duty.

The Kids Fun Run starts at 10 a.m., with the adults' 5K beginning at 11 a.m. There will be food, beverages, face painting and other entertainment after the races are over.
