Pearl River Takes to the Polls

Residents showed up to campaign and vote at polling sites in Pearl River Tuesday.

Poll workers at Pearl River High School said that the turnout was good for Tuesday's elections, with voters coming in steadily all morning.

The same as true at Pearl River Public Library.

Some voters, like Al Loeb of Pearl River, were most concerned about a particular election. In Loeb's case, that was the race for Rockland County Sheriff. He said that he was not as interested in the other races in part because he was happy with how the town of Orangetown and Rockland County were being run.

Anne O'Malley of Pearl River is hoping to see changes, particularly in the case of rising taxes. She did vote for the Repulican, which includes incumbent Superisor Paul Whalen."

"I'm not really happy with the way everything is going," O'Malley said. "Our taxes keep going up and it doesn't seem like anybody is doing anything about that. I would like my taxes to come down. I did continue to go out for the same people, but I do hope that things can be different."

There were also people campaigning outside some polling sites such as Ken Johnston, who works in the Rockland County Sheriff's department. He was near the Pearl River Public Library campaigning for Lou Falco for Rockland County Sheriff. He said the reaction he received was mixed. He said it was important to come out to try to inform the public as they go to vote.
