Pearl River Teachers Apply to Adopt Roads

The Orangetown Town Board will also vote to approve changes to the tentative budget and to set a public hearing regarding overriding the state's 2% tax cap.

The Pearl River Teacher's Association recently contacted the Orangetown Highway Department about adopting a road in town.

"We just want to reach out to the community and find a way to help," said Pearl River Teacher's Association President Kevin O'Connor. "We asked the town what roads we could help clean up. Actually, we asked about one, but it's grown. The goal is to keep them as clean as possible."

The Orangetown Town Board will vote on the approval of the Pearl River Teachers' applications to adopt two roads at its regular board meeting 7:30 p.m. tonight.

One location is Colonial Court, which runs behind Luigi O'Grady's and is often used as a shortcut by students walking from the high school. The other is East Central Avenue from the ShopRite entrance to Oriole Street, which includes the main entrance to the high school.

The board will also vote on changes to the 2012 tentative budget and set a hearing for Nov. 9 regarding a town law overriding New York State's 2% tax cap.

The full agenda for the meeting can be found here.

One potentially interesting part of the meeting not on the agenda is the public comments. Members of the town council joked at the end of last week's workshop that the public portion should be particularly interesting because Tuesday's meeting is the last town council meeting before the Nov. 8 elections.
