After being briefed on the situation, the National Guard were dispatched into the area by O&R

The National Guard came to the Crowne Plaza in Suffern on Nov. 3.  Pictured here (left to right) is the Crowne Plaza’s General Manager Robert Wilson, Crowne Plaza Owner Shelly Goldstein, James Burke from Orange & Rockland and Major Cano from the National Guard.

"It was our first time hosting them at the Crowne Plaza and it’s always an honor.  We are very proud and pleased that we were able to help out," said Wilson.

He added that Orange & Rockland had the National Guard units brought into the area to help protect the public from the down power lines in the area.

"The National Guards were brought to the Crowne Plaza to be brief on the situation and were given instructions on how to proceed and were greeted by Robert Wilson and Shelly Goldstein.  All units were then dispatched into the area by Orange & Rockland.  The Crowne Plaza gave the meeting room and coffee to the soldiers complimentary for their services."

Wilson was told that around 1,000 troops were coming but needed to be split among all of the utility companies in the area. It was less than 100 that came to the Crowne Plaza at 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
