Poll: Should Orangetown Council Cut Taxes or Preserve Services?

The Orangetown Town Council will hold a special meeting 12:15 p.m. today to discuss the 2012 budget.

The Orangetown Town Board voted last Wednesday not to override the state's 2% tax cap for the 2012 budget.

That meant the board could not approve the Supervisor's Preliminary Budget, which calls for a tax increase of between 7% and 7.5%.

The 2012 budget must be approved by Nov. 20, which is one reason the board is holding a special meeting 12:15 p.m. Monday to discuss it.
