Preparing For Thanksgiving – What’s Open & Closed

Pearl River schools and many government offices close on Thursday and Friday , including the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center. Know of something that's closed? Tell us in the Comments Section.

Here is a summary of what is open and what is closed for Thanksgiving.  

  • The Pearl River School District closes all day Thursday and Friday, though Pearl River High School graduates will be very active over the next three days with alumni sporting events Thursday through Saturday and reunions for the Class of 1987 and Class of 2002. 
  • Pearl River Public Library closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday and all of Thurday, but will be open Friday.  
  • Rockland County government offices are closed on Thanksgiving Day and open for regular hours on Friday. The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at Provident Bank Park in Pomona will be closed Thursday and Friday.  It will reopen on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Clarkstown and Orangetown Town Halls will be closed Thursday and Friday.
  • There will not be any garbage or recycling collection in both towns and services will resume on Friday.
  • Public transportation services will operate on revised schedules during the Thanksgiving holiday. 
  • For you shoppers out there, here's a look at what malls will be open.
