Schedule Rockland County Representatives To Speak On Veterans, Health Issues

Streamlined process implemented to encourage organizations and schools to schedule speakers on safety tips, youth work programs or health insurance

Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef announced a simplified scheduling process to encourage groups and schools to bring in county representatives from its Speakers Bureau discuss the variety of services and programs available.

A recent letter sent to schools and organizations outlined the breadth of topics speakers can cover: benefits available to veterans; health education programs and upcoming clinics; youth initiatives such as the AmeriCorps program, TEEN Works and Project Team; programs for seniors including health insurance, home energy assistance and taxi vouchers; and emergency preparedness and safety tips.

“As part of our ongoing effort to make County government more accessible to residents, we created the Speakers Bureau to make residents aware of the types of programs offered to them,” said Vanderhoef.  “Our hope is that schools and other organizations will incorporate our Speakers Bureau into their curriculum or meeting to educate residents of all ages about County government and its vast array
of services.”

Designated county employees have always been available to visit schools and community groups to speak about government services; the Speakers Bureau formalizes and streamlines the process to make it easier for those requesting a speaker.

To request a speaker, go to www.rocklandgov.com under “Top On-Line Forms” select “Request a Speaker,” fill out the form and follow the instructions on how to submit it.  The website lists all county departments and their functions.
