Where Do Nyack's Taxis Park?

Local cabbie seeks spot for cab; must first pay tickets, officials say

A Nyack cab driver is looking to secure a permanent, roadside spot on South Franklin for his roster of vehicles—but has to settle several unpaid parking tickets, first.

Roberto Rodriguez operates a four-vehicle taxi service in the village, but lacks a space close to Main Street for his drivers. Village codes states, "The Nyack Parking Authority may prohibit... the use of metered spaces by taxicabs and/or other vehicles for hire."

Taxis are allowed to park in certain village lots, and officials said they would look into securing Rodriquez a street spot, too—after he pays the owed fines.

"You have to be acting in good faith with the village," explained Walter Sevastian, Nyack's village attorney. "You can't bounce check to the Justice Court for old parking fines. While we’re finding the spot, you have to go to the court and clear up payments."

"[Rodriguez is] entitled to a space, we just need to figure out where," added mayor Jen Laird-White.

In the recent past, Nyack cabbies have appeared in front of village officials for different reasons—to accuse out-of-town taxis from . It's a practice that violates Nyack law, and has landed law-breakers with hefty, hundred-dollar fines.

This cab driver went to Village Hall and when confronted by village officials he suddenly 'could not speak English" and 'had hearing' problems. I would prefer our village officials to spend their time on helping business owners who respect the community and who do not curse out our residents and shoppers. As a registered business owner, I will ask the village trustees to review all the illegal businesses and illegal apartments in Nyack.

Why don't we get the taxis in Nyack to follow traffic laws before kowtowing to their request for a parking space ?!?!

I agree with nyackagain. I have never seen such bad driving in my life. How do they get driver's licenses? They don't seem to know the basic rules of the road. Do they even have licenses?
