Cutting the Ribbon at Pearl River's Franklin Ave. Playground

Pearl River School District officials joined Franklin Avenue Elementary students, staff and parents to thank those who contributed to the school's new playground during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday.

Franklin Ave. Elementary School Principal Maureen Alaimo spoke about the creative fundraising methods and hard work that went into replacing the aging playground equipment at the school. Those included the creation of the world record breaking longest ice cream sundae on the Central Ave.Field and a wrestling show at Pearl River High School.

Students read the names of the members of the Franklin Ave. Playground Committee and its major sponsors. They also presented flowers to the chairs of the playground committee, Jean Beckerle and Donna Warren. Hear part of the ceremony in the video attached to this report.

What a lovely event, so focused on the children's joy over the new playground and the great volunteers who made it happen. Congrats to all involved -- another great example of people pulling together to make good things happen in Orangetown!
