Pearl River School District’s Parent University announces its next parent education workshop for 2011-12.

Back by popular demand, Pearl River Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Morgano and Dr. Frank Auriemma, who retired as Pearl River superintendent in June 2011, will present on the topic, Sending Your Child Off to College: It’s Not High School.

The session takes place on Wednesday, May 2nd, at 7 p.m. at Pearl River High School Pirate Cove. Auriemma and Morgano have both lived through children leaving home for school and both have taught at the college level. Among the topics they will discuss are adjusting to college academic rigor; roommate issues, boyfriend/girlfriend issues, and fitting in issues; solving problems on their own; calling home too much or not enough; having a car on campus; co-ed dorms; campus safety; returning home to visit – “Who is this person?”; academic transitions including changing majors and changing schools; and much more.

There will be ample time for questions and answers. The program takes place in the Pearl River High School Pirate Cove, located at 275 East Central Avenue. Take the first entrance off of Central Avenue into Pearl River High School and continue all the way around the building to the gymnasium/cafeteria entrance. See signs for the Pirate Cove. All Parent University programs are free and open to all parents everywhere. Preregistration is not necessary. The Pearl River PTAs are co-sponsoring this workshop. For additional information, contact the Pearl River School District Continuing Adult Education Office at (845) 620-3921.

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend
