For the Kids: Movies, Kids College Events at RCC

Each week, we'll give you the info on the best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance. 

Look for the kids' planner each Wednesday, and help us build the planner with your own suggestions and tips‚ just add them to the comments. We want to hear from you!

Kids College Events

Why Go:
Performing Arts campers will have their show, the Art Institute campers have an art exhibition, and Awesome Science campers get to launch their own rockets! Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the talent and accomplishments of their campers!

Pearl River Library Teen Movie Night: Jurassic Park
When/Where: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Pearl River Public Library Community Room.
Why Go: Teens can enjoy the free showing of the science fiction blockbuster based on Michael Crighton’s novel of the same name, which is on Pearl River’s ninth-grade reading list and will be one of the works included in the library’s “Battle of the Books.”

Why Go:
If you’re kids are into grittier superhero flicks -- and can handle the darker aspects of the Batman franchise -- seeing the DC Comics hero is IMAX can’t be beat.

Why Go: Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson is being hosted by the Rockland Boulders for a special evening that includes the game, a Girl Scout parade prior to the game, presentation by the Rockland Boulders Dietician Idy Neuman, special after game activities including a movie and sleepover.

Orangetown Friday Night Summer Concert Series: Separate Ways
When/Where: Friday, July 20, 7:45 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Orangeburg.
Why Go: Share old family favorites or introduce the little ones to music from your younger days with Separate Ways, a Journey cover band. Refreshments are available. Bring your own blankets and chairs.

Family Movie Night
When/Where:

Why Go:
The movie Big Miracle will be shown on the big screen. Bring blankets, pillows and anything that makes you comfortable. Snacks will be provided. Parents must accompany and stay with children during the movie.

Arts & Craft Make & Take

from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 21/
Why Go:
AC Moore has free a Arts & Craft activity this Saturday. Stop by and learn about Littleton Coin Company Penny Collecting. There are also 220 kids craft projects for only $1.

Why Go:
AC Moore has free a Arts & Craft Make & Take activity. Stop by and participate in the Duck Tape Olympic Medal craft. There are also 220 kids craft projects for only $1.

The Conklin Scholarship Fund in conjunction with Flip 'n Dip (located in the Kohls Shopping Center) will be hosting a Fundraiser on July 21st. Take the kids for some ice cream/frozen yogurt and mention the Scholarship Fund when you order. A portion of the day’s proceeds will go toward the organization

Matty Roxx Children's Concert
When/Where: Wednesday, July 18 from 6 to 6:45 p.m./New City Library, 220 N Main St, New City
Why Go: Children ages 12 months and up are invited to sing and dance along with Matty Roxx!    Enjoy funny songs, general silliness, hand-clapping and foot-stompin' fun!  Limited seating available on a first-come, first-served basis to New City or West Nyack Library card holders.
